SOCIAL/ RECREATIONAL SERVICES
Social Advisement
Each Step 1 member is assigned a social advisor. The social advisors typically a Social Worker, have years of experience working with special needs young adults. Social advisors and members address concerns such as transitioning to independence, developing and maintaining friendships and peer resolution to name a few.
Members may also be referred for outside therapy.
Recreational Activities
Giant Step stresses the importance of friendships, social skills and recreational activities that foster personal growth and development. A monthly social calendar rich with diverse and interesting events support members' interest.
Weekly Events
Along with members' input weekly events can include trips to restaurants, bowling, movies, sporting events, malls, etc.
Giant Step Residential Advisors facilitate events providing support in money handling, social guidance, time management, and trip preparation.
Annual Trip
Giant Step plans yearly destination trips that have included both domestic and international travel. Planning for the trip supports the independent living ,social and academic curricula as students prepare for their departure.
